Summary

Trauma impacts all people: men, women, rich, poor, young, old, and all races. It is apparent more than ever that many people may be suffering from some form of trauma whether it is from the effects of COVID-19, medical trauma, sexual or physical assault or abuse, a traumatic accident, or systemic racism. The symptoms and effects are often difficult to predict but we know that it will affect our clients throughout the litigation process. As lawyers practicing in family, personal injury, employment, criminal, or other types of law, we have a professional responsibility to effectively represent our clients including those who are emotionally traumatized. Learn trauma-informed lawyering including identifying trauma, adjusting the attorney-client relationship, adapting litigation strategy, and preventing vicarious trauma during the litigation process.
